Synopsis: The film, based on a story by the author of Three-Body Problem, Cixin Liu, presents a crisis of unprecedented proportions: the sun has become unstable and, in a hundred years, it will expand to consume the Earth. Within 300, the entire solar system will have disappeared. The governments of the Earth unite to face the problem, and find a novel solution: they pull the planet with 10,000 gigantic airplanes, and they expel it from its orbit and launch it in a journey of a hundred generations to a new home to 4.2 years away. The idea is to use Jupiter’s gravitational well to increase the speed of the trip, but a malfunction of the engine system that drives the Earth leaves the planet trapped in Jupiter’s gravity and gradually moves towards destruction.
